Women's Hoops gets off to a great start
11/07/08 - Although the Lady Raiders will be making their home debut for the 2008-09 season this weekend, they have already begun their winning ways by capturing a 93-51 victory over Andrew College in Cuthbert, GA Tuesday night. The Bart Walker era could not have started any better as his team cruised from the very beginning. In fact, NWF State's defense got 26 steals, an unbelievable number that hopefully continues throughout the year. Defense creating offense is perhaps the most effective way to ensure a teams success over the opposition, which is why it is so heavily emphasized in Walker's system.

11/07/08 - The Raiders picked up right where they left off last year, dominating their opponent in every phase of the game. NWF State crushed the visiting Atlanta Metro squad 98-68 by turning in a dizzying array of athleticism, defense, and red-hot shooting. From the opening tip the Raiders were the aggressor, applying a full-court pressure defense that set the tone for the entire game. NWF's efforts on the defensive end forced 21 Atlanta Metro turnovers, creating easy scoring opportunities for every position on the floor. This is an area where the NWF State coaches feel they have improved from a year ago, their defensive versatility. The Raiders will look to continue stifling their opponents this weekend in the Quality Inn Classic.

10/31/08 - Perhaps one of the most anticipated aspects of the upcoming Raider athletic season is the debut of first year head women's basketball coach Bart Walker and his Lady Raiders. Everyone is buzzing with excitement about what Coach Walker's first team at Northwest Florida State College is going to look like. Well, here's a little insight. Bart Walker's brand of basketball is simple, yet incredibly effective and entertaining: Full-court pressure defense, a fast-break offense, and quick, athletic players at each position that can really run the floor. And this style of play is proven, as Coach Walker has led his teams to three state championships and three Elite 8 appearances in the National Tournament during his eight seasons combined at Hiwassee and Chattanooga State. So it's no mystery why Raider fans are so fired up to catch a glimpse of 2008-09 Lady Raiders.
