5/3/2010 – NWF St. softball season ends with loss to TCC

The Northwest Florida State College softball team's season came to an end on Saturday in Auburndale at the FCCAA Gulf District Tournament, as the Raiders suffered a tough 2-1 loss to Panhandle Conference rival Tallahassee Community College.

The Raiders (35-15) stranded seven runners on base, allowing the Eagles to push across the winning run on a single in the top of the seventh. Both of Tallahassee's runs reached base via leadoff walks by pitcher Kalie Lang.

Tallahassee scored a run in the top of the fifth, and the Raiders answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning. Juliana Shibata led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, and eventually came around to score on a throwing error on a Missy Milligan bunt.

The score remained 1-1 until the seventh, when the Eagles scored on a bloop single with two outs. The Raiders put runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't push across the tying run.

"Just to play in the postseason is a big accomplishment," NWF State coach Jack Byerley said. "They did a nice job all year and we're a really young team."
