3/28/2012 – Raiders split with Tallahassee
No. 6 Northwest Florida State rallied from a 6-0 defeat in game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader at Tallahassee to take the nightcap 6-5 in 11 innings.
NWF State (30-10, 4-4 Panhandle Conference) took at 3-0 lead into the sixth inning of game 2, but Tallahassee pushed across three runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up. The two teams would go back and forth until the Raiders pushed across the eventual game-winning run in the 11th.
"We just told the girls between games that they had to play ball and not let the emotions get too carried away," Raiders coach Jack Byerley said.
Niceville product Shannon Brinkley drove in two runs on two hits while Gwen Jones, Shelby Knox and Amber Hulsey also had two hits apiece to back five strong innings of relief from Michelle Phelps. Choctawhatchee product Michelle Eubanks got the win for NWF State.
