NWF State baseball 4-0 in conference
The Northwest Florida State College baseball team stayed perfect in Panhandle Conference play with a 10-9 win over Chipola at home.
"It's as good as we can start and tonight's game is just a character builder for our team," NWF State coach Doug Martin said.
The Raiders scored two runs in the top of the final inning before Mugsy Howard came on in relief to record a strike out and get the win for the Raiders.
Jorge Chavarria helped lead NWF State (19-9, 4-0) back from a 5-0 deficit for the win. Chavarria had four hits, three RBIs and a triple. Nick Masonia had three hits and scored three runs for the Raiders and teammate Patrick McGavin added two hits and a pair of RBIs.
"We were down 6-0 in the second inning and our kids kept chipping away," Martin said. "These kids got what they deserved tonight and what they deserved was that outcome because they just refused to stop battling."
NWF State will travel to Marianna to face Chipola on Wednesday for the second installment of their three-game series.
