Raiders make it 5 straight against Pensacola
Northwest Florida State College got a lift from Kyle McDorman to notch a key 6-5 road win over Pensacola Wednesday night. The win marks the Raiders' fifth of the year over Pensacola and moves NWF State to 10-4 in Panhandle Conference play.
McDorman, a Niceville product, had two hits and drove in two runs for the Raiders (25-13), including the game-winner in the top of the ninth inning.
With the score knotted at 5-5, Cody Shelton reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Franco Broyles advanced Shelton to second on a sacrifice and he made his way to third on a wild pitch. McDorman hit a hard ground ball to first that was mishandled to score Shelton. Mugsy Howard recorded the win in relief of Patrick McGavin, who struck out nine in 7-1/3 innings of work.
"After being ahead our guys could've got down on it, but our guys didn't," NWF State coach Doug Martin said. "It's tough to beat a team all five times you play them. I knew tonight was going to be a struggle."
Nick Masonia and Blake Bearden had solo home runs for the Raiders in the win.
